This is a view of the opposite side of the front yard area. Before landscaping, this area was covered by one spruce tree. It now contains a variety of plants, paths and even a garden bench. It provides privacy even though the area borders a busy street.

Solution:

We cut down the huge spruce in the front yard and replaced it with several clump birches and a variety of ornamental grasses and small shrubs. A deck was added where the front porch had been. To the left of the deck we created a garden area with a bench, pond, and any grassy areas left were replaced with flagstone. We used the same plan with the rest of the yard. Gardens, pond, deck, and pathways replaced grass.

A view of the left side of the new front deck. The deck area is large enough for a small table and a couple of chairs in addition to space enough to easily access the front door and the steps on either side. The steps on the left side of the deck lead down to a pond, bench and garden area.
